Howard Hall - Braintree Masonic Centre
Welcome to Howard Hall

Howard HallThe Howard Hall Masonic Club is made up of representatives of the Lodges and Side Orders who meet at Braintree in order to ensure the proper running and maintenance of the building. It is made up of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

In addition to the above there are two representatives on the Committee from each Craft Lodge and one representative from Chapter and other Orders.

When the building was originally built it was vested in the name of the Lodge of Saint Mary 1312 but, clearly, over the years it has been found that one Lodge could not possibly support and maintain a building of the size of the Howard Hall and therefore the Howard Hall Masonic Club was formed not only to promote Freemasonry in the Braintree region, but more importantly, to administer the various duties in running such a building, i.e. the supervision and maintenance of the lift, entrance doors, security system, fire fighting equipment, etc., also to undertake risk assessments, fire assessments, compliance with Disabled Discrimination Act, etc., etc. We are also responsible for interviewing and to appointing caterers with the aim of providing good quality food at affordable levels.

The Committee usually meets on a quarterly basis and the financial year commences on the 1st November. Dues are raised by a per capita charge whereby each member of each organisation pays a fixed charge for every meeting whether they attend or not. The per capita charge does not include meal costs.
